Bokeh is a term I hadn't heard before I started tooling around on Flickr, but it's one I've come to embrace.
Derived from a Japanese word for "blur," it refers to the pleasantly hazy background of a photo in which the focus is centered on the foreground, with a shallow depth-of-field.
(I really sound like I know what I'm talking about there, don't I?)
It's an effect that I really like, but it's not easy to achieve. Especially with a point-and-shoot camera.
But it's not impossible.
