It finally cooled down enough yesterday evening to take a walk over to Grandmothers' Garden, where I found this pretty echinacea flower. Click on it to see it larger, and look at the detail. Nature's geometry is magical.

singularity
Here's a lovely lily that I found in a cemetery in Binghamton, NY over the weekend. The plant was nearly as tall as I am!

pair
I found these lovely sunflowers in my aunt's garden in upstate NY this weekend, at the annual family reunion. She always has the best flowers.

bear
I'm back from a week in New York state, where I had a blast at my class reunion and camped with a bunch of hippies in the woods. Well, not really, but close enough. ;)
This is the bear on the fountain in the middle of Main Street in my hometown of Geneseo, NY. I took this out the window of my car on the way out of town, and didn't notice until I uploaded my pix yesterday that the moon is right there over his head.
When the Americans beat the Russians in the Olympic hockey game in '80, there was a celebration downtown, and the bear got knocked down. As he is a symbol of the town, there was a big to-do over making sure he got repaired. Downtown sure looked empty without him. It was so nice to see him again after all these years.

really funky fungus
I came across this amazing fungus walking down Western Avenue in Westfield the other day. It's about the size of a human brain...
I'll be on vacation starting tomorrow. Off to the wilds of western New York again, this time with a trip to my high school reunion thrown in. Have a wonderful week, and I'll see you when I get back!

cooling his feet
I saw this cute little boy cooling his feet in the fountain at Stanley Park yesterday, and I couldn't resist snapping his picture. My favorite part of the scene is his sneakers on the ground behind him, thrown off in haste.

sunny disposition
While it may not be very sunny out today, at least these asters are cheerful! This particular type is known as Daisy Fleabane, and is purported to repel fleas, as the name implies. Apparently it doesn't repel other bugs, like the one collecting pollen here.

fancy
This is one of the lightpoles in downtown Westfield (this particular one is in front of the library). I really like how they've dressed them up with flags, banners, and flowers. It's a stark contrast to all the empty storefronts there.
