365 project

Since I just got a new camera, and it's a new year, I've decided to do a 365 photo project. What this means is that I'm going to try to take at least one photo a day for a year.

holidaze are over

I'm not going to post them all here, since this I started this blog for different reasons, but I'm putting them all into a set on Flickr here. You can follow along by subscribing to the feed on the set page.

Since I can't do anything the way everyone else does, I started it on December 31st.

The purpose of this project is to not only get in the habit of taking pictures every day, but to expand my horizons a bit by taking pictures of things I might not normally consider. The pic above is of the holiday decorations in my office that I had taken down earlier.

fame

A few months ago, a writer in Pittsburgh emailed me asking to use this photo on the cover of his self-published book. After a few back-and-forths, we agreed on a price and the details, and he promised to send me a copy when it was published.

It came in the mail yesterday.

It's so thrilling to see one of my own pictures on the cover of a book! His neighbor is the artist who did the layout, and she did a beautiful job. I'm pleased as punch.

I took the photo at the old cemetery on Elm Street in West Springfield in January of 2008.

convocation

convocation

On a day like today, I really can believe that spring is on its way. It's a lovely 56 degrees here in East Longmeadow, and it was delightful to get outside for lunch. So much better than the single digits and 'teens we've been having so much of this winter!

I'm sure we'll get more cold and snowy weather, but soon we'll be looking for things like these grape hyacinths popping out of the ground.
